Nine Threads, 2007. Patinated bronze, brass, copper, and stainless steel. 23½ × 49 inches. Hand-fabricated, 1 of 1. Available. Price on inquiry.
The cast shadow: a light drawing, made of everything the light did not touch. Nine threads on the wall, nine on the bar, the same count differently spaced.
The bar carries nine lines the way a loom carries warp, each hung free and weighted differently.
The vertical lines are the warp; the hammered copper and stainless steel crossing them are the weft, laid in by hand and flame.
Every element is worked on both faces, so nothing on this piece has a back.
Polished balls knot the threads at intervals, the way a weaver ties off before beginning the next run. Each element turns freely on its line and can be set facing any direction.
Every ring made by hand, scrolled and closed in flame, holding a bronze drop like a stone the way a knot holds a thread.
The artist's thumbprint pressed into bronze, beside the name, the year, and the mark 1 of 1.
